5 Self-Care Aromatherapy Oil Blends

Made from concentrated plant extracts, essential oils can be a great way to improve your mood, help you sleep or boost your energy. Aromatherapy is not a cure for anxiety, stress, sleeplessness, etc but it can be part of a self-care routine that may provide some relief.

An essential oil diffuser is a great way to create some wonderful fragrance blends that can help maintain your self-care or just make any room you’re in smell fresh and inviting — which in itself can improve your mood. If you want a more intense dose/smell put the oils on a cotton ball and leave it near you so it can evaporate into the air. You can also sniff the cotton ball for an extra boost.

As with any self-care or general health advice, before you use anything it is worth checking with your doctor or other suitable medical professionals that it is okay for you to use essential oils.

Here are 5 self-care aromatherapy oil blends that can help with restless sleep, anxiety/stress, relaxation, nausea/sickness and lack of energy …

Restless Sleep

3 drops lavender + 2 drops cedarwood

Lavender is very relaxing and can promote good sleep, reduce restlessness and help with anxiety and cedarwood can help soothe, calm and relax. Mixed together these oils can promote a better nights sleep.

Anxiety & Stress

3 drops sandalwood + 2 drops bergamot

Both sandalwood and bergamot can promote calm and relaxation (bergamot can also help ease nausea). Mixed together these oils can help reduce some of the symptoms of stress and anxiety and help you find balance.

Relaxation & Calm

3 drops chamomile + 2 drops patchouli

Both chamomile and patchouli can soothe, relieve stress and aid digestion. Mixed together these oils can help you feel calm, help with meditation and relax your mind.

Nausea & Sickness

3 drops ginger + 2 drops lemon

Both lemon and ginger can relieve nausea and vomiting and can act as a natural analgesic. Ginger can also ease digestion and soothe aches and inflammation. Mixed together these oils can help with morning sickness and ease general upset stomach conditions.

Energy Boost

3 drops orange + 1 drop bergamot + 1 drop grapefruit

All citrus-based essential oils can have an uplifting property to them and help promote alertness, boost your mood and ease anxiety. Mixed together these oils can help make you feel more alert and awake and ready for your day.

Essential oils can be a useful tool when creating a positive self-care experience but they may not work or be suitable for everyone, but if it’s safe for you to do so, I would recommend finding a way to incorporate them into your day.

Do you have a favourite essential oil that helps you? Have you tried any of these oils before?

  1. I love aromatherapy! I’m using lavender during the nights and it’s very calming as well. Definitely going to try these combinations, especially the one about anxiety and stress. 🙂

  2. I’ve not tried a diffuser before but used essential oils with a carrier for massage. I used to use Ylang Ylang, Clary Sage, & Patchouli for period pains.

Love the idea of a patchouli and chamomile blend and I’ll be looking into a diffuser when I move into my own place.
