Boundaries (Poem)

Setting boundaries that help improve our lives by maintaining our mental health and emotional well-being should be seen for what they are; a necessary kindness we show ourselves that nourishes and restores. It’s essential we remind ourselves about this every now and then …

It’s commonplace to view ending something or altering a part of our lives through the eyes of defeat; especially if we thought they represented concrete elements of our life’s path. Relinquishing ourselves from the expectations that no longer serve our purpose can sometimes be the answer we’re looking for.

Poem by Molly from Transatlantic Notes called Boundaries reads: “Rethinking how we approach something in order to preserve our own mental health isn’t quitting or failure — it’s survival, it's resiliency, and it's necessary.”

Only we experience what’s needed to fulfill our everyday lives. It’s okay if we implement changes and set boundaries or end something to establish an alternative direction. Regarding things in a fresh, new light may just be the guidance we require.

  1. Yes! It’s so important to set boundaries and think about how we approach things. This is something I’ve been working on all year myself. I’ve found I’m much less stressed if I set those boundaries and stick to them. I haven’t mastered it yet, but I’ve gotten better.

    1. I haven’t mastered it either, and it will probably always be a work in progress as things shift and change, but having boundaries and reassessing how we look at something is so important. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences!

  6. This is such a lovely post, Molly! Setting boundaries was such a huge issue for me in the past. I’ve been working hard to set boundaries in all aspects of my life within the past couple of years and I’m so happy! Great piece x
