I use daily affirmations to disrupt my negative inner voice; which situational stress, anxiety and depression have recently made more prominent. Initially, it feels like these motivational phrases are just hollow attempts at ego-boosting, but they really can improve and retrain our mindset if we give them a chance. We’re worthy of treating ourselves with kindness and care — we should celebrate our potential.
These forward-looking mindfulness exercises have some science behind them that shows they’re capable of turning positive mantras into a nourishing growth mindset. They can motivate and give our self-esteem the boost it needs to deter self-doubt and obstructive thoughts. If undertaken regularly, affirmations may reduce the occurrence and impact of negative emotions and bolster our ability to address future challenges.

We can unsettle our self-sabotaging thoughts and behaviours by repeating these brief, powerful and intentional statements; providing ourselves with a mechanism that shifts our thought processes, responses and actions towards something more positive.
I thoroughly recommend developing the habit of giving ourselves a little lift each day that enables us to blossom and bloom; here are some morning affirmations to boost your day …
- There will be moments of joy to celebrate today.
- I am resilient and capable.
- I accept the ups and downs that today may bring; I value what they can teach me.
- I can face my fears and be open to new experiences in life.
- I am worthy of love; I am capable of love; I am loved.

- I will show myself compassion today.
- I will identify solutions to any challenges that may arise.
- I am competent at learning new skills.
- I have knowledge, intuition and experience to guide me throughout the day.
- I know that whatever I accomplish today, it’s good enough. I am enough.
- I can set goals and work towards them efficiently.
- I value my time and can reconsider what I put effort and energy into if it no longer sustains me.
It’s essential we take some time each morning to set our intentions for the day; with affirmations at the ready for when we need to break patterns of internalized negativity. We can build on the changes we wish to embrace within ourselves; it involves perseverance, but it’s worth it.
Which affirmation/s resonated with you? How do you stop your negative inner voice? How do you celebrate yourself each day?

I love this so much! I will show myself compassion today! What a great way to start your day. These are such wonderful reminders of how amazing we all are. Positivity is something that this world lacks sometimes and as a woman in a mans world it can be very difficult to feel like enough without giving all of yourself and more everyday until you have nothing left to give. I have not made a habit of positive affirmations, but these are so great. In the morning I will be granting myself compassion and grace. Thanks so much for sharing!

I agree — life can sometimes seem like it’s picking away at our confidence and how/what we value about ourselves. I was reluctant to make affirmations a part of my daily routine but it has made such a difference I recommend it for everyone. Granting compassion and grace is a great way to reframe our mindset each morning — thank you so much for reading!

Wonderful post, Molly! I’ve been practicing gratitude both morning and night. These affirmations will be a great addition. Affirmations can become repetitive and I can say that the ones you’ve shared have been a breath of fresh air. I especially love “I accept the ups and downs that today may bring; I value what they can teach me.” That’s such a beautiful way to look at things, especially first thing in the morning. I find that one bump in the road can sometimes set us up to think that our entire day is ruined, but by reciting that affirmation, you’re already changing the way you approach your day. Thanks for sharing!

You’re so right that a bump in our day can sometimes make it feel like the whole day is ruined — so it’s great to have something we can use daily to make dealing with those issues easier. I use affirmations at night too (glad I’m not the only one) and have a post planned in the future to share the ones I use as I think it helps me sleep a bit better — they really are amazing! This is SO important, and it’s a habit I need to build. It’s been such a difficult year that I fall too easily into negative thoughts (assuming it’s going to be a day of gloomy news like yesterday, etc) and that reflects badly on my own confidence. I might copy some of these into my bullet journal so I can ponder on them. I’m sharing this post, it’s really important!

I think the “I will identify solutions to any challenges that may arise” affirmation is the one that most resonated with me. I’m pretty good at problem solving issues.
When it comes to my negative intrusive thoughts, I don’t really do much about them. I tend to just let them run there course and carry on with what I’m doing.
I don’t think I do anything to celebrate myself daily, accept maybe stuffing my face with chocolate from time to time

I’m pretty similar in that I can usually find solutions to things — that affirmation is a great reminder to ourselves from time to time. It’s good that you’ve found what works for you when dealing with your negative thoughts, I think everyone should try and find a way through them that leads to a better space.
I celebrate myself with chocolate too, haha especially British chocolate I have shipped over to me so I get a taste of home!

I have a love-hate relationship with affirmations if I’m honest. But I do believe that our internal voice is extremely important and, if it is a negative one, that can be detrimental. I was recently introduced to the idea of, instead of saying “I feel xyz” to say “something in me feels xyz.” Words are so powerful and that little change in phrasing helps things feel more manageable for me. It’s an affirmation in a way, I guess. The affirmation in your post that resonated with me is “I am resilient and capable.” Life has felt precarious in many areas this year and I’ve been trying to remind myself of just that. Thank you for sharing your experience with affirmations and for being open about your struggles.

I have a love/hate relationship with them too and it took me a long time to start using them; when I do put them into practice, they have been so helpful. You’re so right that words are important, they hold a lot of power so we may as well use them about/towards ourselves to build ourselves up and improve our mental health and/or mindset. I really like your idea of phrasing things differently — which is equally powerful as it can literally redirect you towards something that will support and encourage yourself. Life is tough enough so training our inner voice to be resilient and soothing is something I think we should all give a try. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences and thoughts here!
