Fun Facts From Behind the Blog (Tag)

One enjoyable way to establish connections in the blogging community; both with readers and fellow writers/creatives, is to explore what life is like from behind the blog. Many of us have some fascinating facts that we could share about ourselves; and these intriguing blog tag questions are a perfect way to do it.

As is tradition with blogging tags, I’ve nominated some creators at the end of this post whose work I love and appreciate; but even if you’re not mentioned, feel free to join in and share your answers in a post of your own. If any of you do take part; be sure to credit and link to this post to let me know you’ve participated and I can comment on/like what you’ve shared!

Here are my answers to the blog tag questions that explore some fun facts about me

Describe Yourself In 3 Words

I am many nuanced and complex things that evolve and grow over time; narrowing it down to three words is challenging but right now I think what best reflects who I am is: compassionate, funny and thoughtful

What’s one thing you own that you should probably get rid of, but won’t?

I have an extensive assortment of corgi tea towels I should probably declutter from my life; instead of having them packed away in a box in my closet. I don’t use them because I consider them collectibles (I’m corgi obsessed), but they’re also not something to display; they’re literally just stuff I’m keeping hold of because … [insert excuse].

Do you have a hidden talent?

Aside from being able to locate things my husband can’t find even though they’re right in front of him/exactly where I said they’d be (I mention this with love and humour); my hidden talent would be my intuition. I have highly developed (and rarely proven wrong) instincts about people/situations I encounter. I can pick up on tells or vibes very easily and trust it completely.

What happened in the most recent dream you can remember?

The only part I can recall is sitting across from my Mum on a passenger train as she tries figuring out her new mobile phone. She hands it to me to see if I can resolve the issue (which I do), but while I’m busy showing her how to work it, it repeatedly goes wrong. I get a bit flustered but keep going; as I look up mid-explanation, I see my Mum looking back at me and smiling.

I’ve not seen my Mum in-person for years because we live so far apart; I look forward to the day I finally get to see her again.

Is there something you haven’t done that seemingly everyone else has?

Two things come to mind; with one in particular that always shocks people when they find out …

The first is that almost everyone I’ve met/talked to has been to Olive Garden at some point (I hear the bread sticks are amazing) but I’ve yet to go; the second (which gets the most reaction) is that I do not know how to drive. I’ve never learned so to get around I either walk, use public transportation or my husband drives me.

What is a recent life hack or latest find that you can’t live without?

This is not an ad or sponsored answer but I have to share a product I recently discovered that has revolutionized how I do my nails. I enjoy applying nail polish but I am terrible at it; I end up with lumpy, uneven messy results that put me off doing them. By chance, I decided to try some nail stickers/wraps from Dashing Diva (firmly believing they’d peel off as soon as I showered or did the washing up); I was shocked to find they survived a whole week! I put in some heavy duty house cleaning too and these things stayed the course. The brand states that they last up to 14 days; which even though this wasn’t what I experienced, I still ended up with gorgeous looking nails for longer than I could ever achieve myself.

If you’re going to give this beauty hack a try; make sure you don’t soak them/get them wet immediately after application (wait an hour or so before you do anything like that).

Share an unusual/odd fact about yourself

I spent most of my life thinking this was standard for most people (both in the UK and the U.S.) but apparently having two middle names is a little unusual. My mum and sister also have two, so we all encounter trouble filling out official forms that require our full legal names!

If you had a warning label, what would it say?

I think it would have to be; ‘Stubborn with a tendency to get annoyed easily.

My stubbornness has been a blessing at times as it’s got me through some really tough moments but it can definitely work against me. I’ve also reached the age/stage of life where thinking ‘I don’t have time for this shit’ has become a more regular occurrence.

What are your top 3 films?

I can’t decide (yet) on my all-time favourite movies; there are too many to choose from, so I’ve decided to select my top 3 films from those I’ve watched recently. They are:

Coco (Disney, 2017)

Spider-Man: No Way Home (Sony Pictures, 2021)

Nobody (Universal Pictures, 2021)

Who is someone you admire?

It would have to be chef and humanitarian José Andres who through his life’s work has put the very best of humanity out into the universe. As founder of World Central Kitchen (currently feeding and supporting people in Ukraine); Andres, along with his team go right to the frontlines of communities experiencing war, natural disaster or climate crisis to feed them (for free) and provide aid. He is one of the most open, kind and loving people to follow and support; truly an inspiration.

  2. Thank you so much for including me in this tag Molly! I loved reading your thoughtful questions and answers. It’s so nice to get to know more about each other! I adore corgis and would love to see your corgi tea towel collection! I’ve been to Olive Garden once and while I can’t remember much about their breadsticks, their pasta was definitely amazing. Coco and Spider-Man were incredible movies, I’ll have to check Nobody out! Thanks again for the nominiation! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  3. Coco is a great movie. I should watch it again sometime! I had to chuckle at the corgi tea towels. That seems like a very British collectible item. As to the dream, what would really be interesting is if your mom either just received a new phone unbeknownst to you or else had a similar dream where she couldn’t figure something out. I don’t suppose either is true eh?

    1. I have to watch Coco again as it’s so beautifully done! I think you might be right about the corgi tea towels maybe being a British thing, haha! I know my Mum hasn’t had a new phone recently but I’ll have to ask her about if she had a similar dream!

  5. Awww love these type of posts. Funnily enough, I also possess the power to find things that my daughter and husband can’t see which are in front of their faces – LOL. I can totally relate to your dream about your Mum. I live in Australia, and she lives in England, and I miss her terribly, so I feel your pain. Fun read 😀 xoxo

  6. This is a fun tag. So nice to get to know you better through this post. I have a driver’s license, but I’m still too scared to drive on the thruways. My hubby has two middle names too, which is not unusual in the Philippines. He did encounter a few problems with having two middle names when he moved to the US.

    1. That’s really cool that two middle names is not so unusual in the Philippines; growing up in the UK (and now living in the US) it’s definitely not so common — most of my bank cards and official stuff only include one of them (your husband probably has that issue too)! Thanks fo much for reading!

  8. Some fascinating insights there. Your corgi tea towels could be worth something one day, so possibly worth hanging onto. Like you, I use public transport all the time. I am sure it is less stressful than driving (most of the time) and, with rising fuel prices, probably cheaper. Great read.

    1. I think Coco might be on for me this weekend; it’s so beautifully done! I’m in awe that you learned how to drive even if you don’t do it now; I think if I tried to learn how to do it now it would be a disaster, haha!

  9. It was great to learn more about you, Molly. I can relate to some of your experiences, like never learning how to drive 😄 two legs can go a long way 😁 x

  11. I loved reading this Molly and learning some more things about you. It took me ages to learn how to drive also. I got my driving licence in my 20s but did not have a car available back then so I forgot everything within months. Had to start over at my mid 30s.

  12. I really enjoyed reading this, it’s always so much fun to get know more about the person behind the blog! I still need to see the new Spider-Man movie and I love that you have a corgi tea towel collection! I hope you get to see your mum soon too. Thank you so much for sharing x

    1. It was definitely easier in the UK where public transportation is considerably better and more accessible than here in the U.S. —— but I either walk, get a bus or my husband drives me if he is available. It can be frustrating getting about like this sometimes but it’s always how I’ve done it so it feels really normal to me now, haha!

  13. Totally loving this post! I can imagine having two middle names does make it hard to fill out forms, but I loved learning this and other interesting things about you. I had to laugh at your ability to find things your husband is looking right at; it is the same in my household but, instead of finding things for a husband, I find things for my siblings. 🙂
