Outstanding Climate Action Groups To Join and Support

Leading vital activism and work to slow advancing climate change are these 10 outstanding organisations that fight for justice and a greener future.

One of the most valuable things we can do to help save the planet is to remain well-informed about climate justice, climate action, and the increasing impact of climate change. Becoming knowledgeable in this way helps us determine exactly what steps we can undertake to promote, support, and fight for a thriving and sustained world.

Individual action alone will not solve the climate crisis; it is going to take systemic change on a global, national, and local political level. I think by now we are all aware of the fact that the most notable shift towards sustainability needs to come from the fossil fuel sector, which is causing the most damage—a fact that has been known about and ignored by them for decades. Sadly, the amount of money and political influence this industry, and others like it that drive global warming and environmental destruction, all but ensure this will remain an uphill battle.

But even though we may be a small part of a wider movement, once we understand the issue, we can align ourselves with organisations and groups that are making big changes on a global, political, and industrial level. Some of which you can find in this article …

This post is part of the Climate Change Collective, a group of environmentally-minded bloggers who share valuable climate action news. Started by Michelle from Boomer Eco Crusader and Jamie from Jamie Ad Stories, each month a different member contributes a lead/focus post that the rest of the collective responds to on their own sites, further discussing the information and issues raised.

The collective is currently open to any other bloggers who want to join; if you are interested, get in touch.

Collective Climate Action

Smell, from Smelly Socks and Garden Peas, wrote the most recent lead/focus post for the collective, where she shares some small but essential everyday steps to help save the planet. The tips she includes, such as recycling, passing on items to be reused, and saving water, for example, are how she and her family have integrated elements of sustainable living into their lives. Smell is consistently doing what is manageable for her personal circumstances, which is exactly what we should aim for—a subject I touched on in my lead post in February, reminding people that our climate action does not need to be perfect.

We don’t need to do it alone and we don’t need to do all of it at once. We can take tiny steps that each contributes a little bit to preserving our planet’s well-being. | Tiny Steps to Save the Planet – Smelly Socks and Garden Peas

This got me thinking about some simple ways we, as individuals, can be a part of climate action on a large scale. One of the most effective ways to do this is to stay educated about the issues that concern us and support organisations and groups that are implementing major change. Depending on what is accessible, appropriate, or achievable for us to do, we could:

  • Donate money and resources.
  • Volunteer at, or attend, rallies and events.
  • Highlight their campaigns and projects on all our social media to raise awareness.
  • Support their calls to action (signing and sharing petitions, writing or phoning government agencies and leaders when directed, etc.).
  • Start a conversation: talk about what they do with those around us.
  • Sign up to receive their newsletter, if they have one.
