How To Ease Experiencing Heartburn by Chewing Gum

Chew on some sugar-free gum when symptoms start; repeat as necessary two to three times a day.

How To Treat Toenail Fungus With Vicks VapoRub

Apply a small amount of Vicks VapoRub to the affected toenail at least once a day.

  • Vicks VapoRub should not be used on children under two years old.
  • After applying any amount, always wash your hands immediately so as not to ingest it, as doing so can cause serious bouts of nausea, vomiting, and even seizures. Washing your hands also makes sure you are not transferring it to sensitive areas like your eyes, ears, or nose. 
  • Contact with the skin can cause redness, irritation, and, on rare occasions, even thermal and chemical burns. 
  • Vicks VapoRub is highly flammable, so stay away from anything that could ignite it.

How To Treat Toenail Fungus With Mouthwash

Soak the foot that has toenail fungus in a 1:1 mixture of Listerine mouthwash and warm water (make sure there’s enough of the mixture to cover your foot). Do this daily for 45 to 60 minutes until the fungus improves, or you can get to a doctor.

  • Mouthwashes with ingredients like methyl salicylate, menthol, thymol, and eucalyptol possess antifungal properties, which could potentially limit further fungal growth. 
  • The antiseptic nature of Listerine may help to reduce the number of fungal spores on the skin and nails, potentially aiding in the treatment of toenail fungus over time.

Health and Safety:

  • Do not use a Listerine foot soak if you have: very sensitive skin; open wounds, cuts, sores, blisters; or dry skin that has cracked, as this will cause discomfort, irritation, and even infection.
  • Avoid this treatment altogether if you have allergies or medical restrictions on the use of aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), as methyl salicylate is chemically similar to them.
  • Do not use on very young children, as products containing salicylates can cause a rare but very serious illness called Reyes Syndrome. To be safe, before using it on children of any age, ask your paediatrician for guidance and advice.

  1. I’ve tried a fair few of these before. A few years ago I had the worst sore throat I’d ever had in my life and the only thing that was helping was something really hot or really cold. I literally spent all day drinking scolding hot cups of tea or eating freezing cold ice lollies, that was the only relief I could find!

  3. This is a good collection of home-remedies for common ailments. I personally always use the salt gargle and black pepper for sore throat and cough. I also use peppermint essential oil to numb migraine to some extent till the medicine comes into effect. I may give the ice-pack-on-neck for migraine a try.   5. Very informative and well put!! I use home remedies quite a lot !! It all thanks to mom since she teached me about a lot of home remedies. I use a many of the remides you described like honey, salt for sore throat , hot compress for period pain, turmeric for inflammation, and steam for congestion, mint for stomach instead of cinnamon we use clove for teeth ache. I’ll try some of the new ones in your post like the raspberry leaf tea, Vicks vapor rub for toenails, and prunes. Thank you for writing such a helpful post.
